Bournemouth Cycling Centre Slades Farm
Ensbury Park, Bournemouth Dorset BH10 4EP
Saturday 12 July
Racing begins at 10.00 am so please allow adequate travel time, the drive into Bournemouth from the end of the M27 in particular is known to be subject to heavy traffic delays in the summer months.
The track forms part of Slades Farm Open Space, the nearest building to Bournemouth Cycling Centre has a BH10 4EP postcode. The Centre’s address is Ensbury Ave, Ensbury Park, Bournemouth. The Car Park immediately adjacent to the Open Space is available for use by Competitors/Officials. Please be aware there is also an Open Day at the Community Centre, please be considerate to the needs of others at all times.
Signing on will take place at the Bournemouth Cycling Centre Administration Office in the Cricket Pavilion in the Park, look for the 2 green Bike Storage Containers in a compound adjacent to the Cricket Pavilion, the office is there. Signing on closes at 9.30am.
Changing Rooms and Toilets
Changing Rooms and Toilets are in Pavilions A and B. Competitors should be aware that both these are not secure and will be open to the public. Pavilion A is for Male competitors and Pavilion B for Women Competitors. Please keep all your kit with you at all times.
Competitors should set up on the tarmac D at the turns 3 and 4 end of the track. There is no permanent “furniture/steel barriers” in this area. Come prepared to bring your own chairs, any sun protection, something to lean on when on rollers!! Etc, etc. Bring plenty of fluid with you, fingers crossed, it should be warm!
The track inside safety zone is considered part of the racing surface, all warming up shall be within the confines of the tarmac D only, not on the safety zone.
Access to the track centre is via the home straight perimeter fence gate. This will be tightly managed during racing to maintain safety. Be prepared to have to wait when you need to leave track. Opportunities and time to cross is limited on a 250m track.
There will be no refreshments available in the track centre. Refreshments can be found alongside and in the Community Hall next to the Car Park. These are provided courtesy of the Community Centre to whom we are grateful.
Riders and Derny Pens in the track centre
Riders shall assemble in the Riders Pen to receive instructions for bunch events prior to each event as required. Dernys are to be parked in a dedicated area (next to the Fire Extinguisher!) to comply with Local Authority Open Space requirements
The track is the UK’s first outdoor tarmac 250m track, 34 deg banking on the bends, less than 10 deg on the straights, leading to quite sharp transitions, particularly above the blue line. The surface is the same as the new Herne Hill surface and is quick but quite grippy. We will provide a short amount of track familiarisation time prior to start of racing but please be warned this will be limited and tightly managed.
